The $2.6 million project will renovate the hospital’s fourth floor to create a 12-bed inpatient unit for patients under 18 years old dealing with mental health issues.
“We end up with kids in our ER for days and days because there are no beds in upstate New York,” said Chuck Gijanto, CEO of Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.
The unit will open in 2020.
