Novant Health and Atrium Health both have proposed new projects in Mecklenburg. Together, the two systems have proposed projects that would add seven operating rooms and 96 acute care beds in the county.
However, the state said it will only approve six new operating rooms and 76 new acute care beds in the county this year, which means officials could approve one project and reject the other or approve portions of both, according to the report.
Novant proposed two projects, developing one additional operating room and 20 additional acute beds in the county.
Atrium proposed six projects, adding six operating rooms and 76 acute care beds to the county.
The state health department will hold public hearings on the proposals Dec. 16.
