6 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities: 

1. UNC Rex to break ground on $65 million cancer center next spring
Raleigh, N.C.-based UNC Rex Healthcare plans to build a $65 million, four-story cancer center to meet increasing demand for oncology treatment and services. 

2. Kentucky will get a new children's hospital
As part of a $52 million investment, Pikeville (Ky.) Medical Center is bringing a new children's hospital to the state.

3. Huntsman Cancer Institute breaks ground on Utah's 1st proton therapy center
University of Utah's Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City broke ground on the state's first proton therapy center Nov. 20. 

4. St. Luke's Hospital plans $300M expansion
Duluth, Minn.-based St. Luke's Hospital plans to invest $300 million to expand in downtown Duluth.

5. Dignity Health, Phoenix Children's break ground on 5-story pavilion
Phoenix Children's Hospital and San Francisco-based Dignity Health began construction of a five-story women and children's pavilion in Gilbert, Ariz. 

6. Catholic Health to spend $11M on pharmacy upgrades
Buffalo, N.Y.-based Catholic Health will spend about $11 million as part of efforts to comply with new national standards governing how its hospitals receive, store, dispense and dispose of hazardous drugs.
