25-foot-wide sinkhole appears near Florida hospital

A large sinkhole opened up just outside the parking lot of Bayfront Health-Brooksville (Fla.), a hospital spokesperson confirmed to the Tampa Bay Times.

The spokesperson told the publication the sinkhole is about 25 feet wide and 20 feet deep. She said the hole does not pose a threat to the 120-bed hospital’s buildings, emergency management services or other facility operations.

While the cause of the sinkhole is unknown, consulting firm Coastal Engineering will monitor it to ensure it does not grow, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

It is unclear when the sinkhole formed.
