Memorial Hospital to transition 3 EHR systems to Epic Dec. 1

Conway, N.H.-based Memorial Hospital will launch a new Epic EHR Dec. 1, swapping its three disparate systems for one and putting it on the same platform as its parent health system MaineHealth, The Conway Daily Sun reports.

The hospital has spent months preparing for the multimillion dollar switch, but it warned that patients may experience delays during the go-live period starting Dec. 1 and continuing for two weeks after.

In addition, starting Nov. 3, pre-registration calls for appointments will come from a pre-registration call center in Westbrook, Maine.

Memorial Chief Medical Information Officer Matthew Dunn, DO, plays a key role in the EHR overhaul, tapping into his expertise as CMIO at Glens Falls (N.Y.) Hospital, where he led a transition to Epic in 2010.

"In that conversion, we saw improved coding and billing practices in addition to the benefits impacting patient experience and quality made possible by one patient having one medical record across the facility," Dr. Dunn told The Conway Daily News, adding that he expects a similar situation at Memorial.
