CMS requires hospitals use online portal to attest to EHR incentive programs

CMS mandated Medicare-eligible hospitals attesting to the agency's Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs use a secure portal to submit meaningful use data beginning Jan. 2.

In "2018 and beyond," eligible hospitals attesting to the EHR Incentive Programs will use the single QualityNet Secure Portal to report data on both quality and meaningful use, according to a CMS fact sheet released this month.

The agency laid out guidance for eligible hospitals submitting 2017 meaningful use data during the 2018 attestation period.

1. Hospitals attesting to the Medicare EHR Incentive Program will submit 2017 attestation data through the QualityNet Secure Portal.

2. Hospitals attesting to the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program will update their registration through the Medicare & Medicaid EHR Incentive Program Registration and Attestation System and submit meaningful use attestation data with their respective state Medicaid agencies.

3. Hospitals attesting to both the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs will update their registration with the QualityNet Secure Portal and the Medicare & Medicaid EHR Incentive Program Registration and Attestation System.

The QualityNet Secure Portal opened for hospitals Jan. 2. The attestation period ends Feb. 28.
