Children's National Health Systems signs agreement with UAE's only pediatric hospital to provide health IT

Al Jalila Children's Specialty Hospital, the only pediatric hospital in the United Arab Emirates, formed a strategic health IT partnership with Children's National Health System in Washington, D.C., the hospitals announced Thursday.

Under the agreement, Children's National and its Bear Institute for Health Innovation — a collaborative effort with Cerner that focuses on pediatric health IT — will share its experience, practice and resources in an advisory role to Al Jalila officials to better inform the effective uses of health IT.

"We're excited to enter into this new collaboration with Al Jalila Children's and, with the support of Cerner, plan to bring our best practices in patient-centered health IT to children in the UAE," said  Kurt Newman, MD, president and CEO of Children's National. "As the premier provider of pediatric health services in Washington, D.C., for almost 150 years, we're looking forward to pushing international discovery and impacting pediatric medicine in innovative ways."

The partnership's announcement follows Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare's rollout of the Epic EHR, becoming the first hospital in Saudi Arabia to implement Epic.
