HIMSS Analytics granted Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Stage 7 of the eight-stage HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model, which measures the degree to which a hospital or health system uses its EMR functions. Five percent of U.S. hospitals have reached Stage 7, which represents the highest designation.

One of the hospital’s health IT initiatives enabled specialists in each department to provide immediate feedback to referring providers through the EMR. The effort led to a reduction in needed referral visits, according to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

“I am very proud of this achievement,” said Paul Lorenz, CEO of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. “It is about more than having the best technology. It is about using that technology in a meaningful way to provide quality care and improve patient outcomes.”
