California hospitals invest in ER expansions

Arroyo Grande (Calif.) Community Hospital and Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, Calif., are two of the latest to invest in emergency room expansions, according to the San Luis Obispo Tribune.

Marian Regional Medical Center plans to expand the emergency department by 3,360 square feet and add 10 rooms, including those specialized for trauma and pediatrics, according to a Tribune report. The Marian Foundation is raising $2.5 million for the project.

The 32-bed ED sees the highest number of trauma patients in the surrounding counties, with an average of 72,000 visits each year, according to the hospital's website.

The Arroyo Grande Community Hospital is investing in a $6.5 million project that includes an ER expansion, according to a separate Tribune report. The expansion will add nine patient rooms and an enhanced triage and fast track design to streamline patient flow.

Arroyo Grande's ED expansion is expected be finished by summer 2019.
