New GE HealthCare AI tool gets FDA clearance

GE HealthCare received FDA 510(k) clearance for Precision DL, an artificial intelligence and deep learning-enabled software designed to improve medical imaging capabilities.

The technology is available on the company's Omni Legend imaging suite. The technology is designed to replicate imaging results typically associated with the hardware-based time of flight reconstruction, according to a May 30 GE HealthCare news release.

The tool was trained on thousands of images.

"One of the main advantages of moving fully into the future of AI and deep learning is making state-of-the-art imaging accessible to more practices, across more care areas than ever before," GE HealthCare Imaging President and CEO Jan Makela said in the release. "Clinicians are seeing the value of applying deep learning technology to enhance image quality with our multi-modality family of Effortless Recon DL applications."
