Cleveland Clinic chair Beth Mooney: 'You've got to lean into the digital world'

With digitization occurring across industries at a rapid rate, the most successful organizations will be those that fully embrace this disruption and ensure their entire workforce has the digital skills necessary to adapt.

In an interview with Strategy+Business, Beth Mooney, CEO of KeyCorp banking network and chair of Cleveland Clinic, explained how "the new global digital skill sets and economy are intersecting" in those and every other business, with consumers of all ages demanding a digital experience. "The decades are collapsing, so you've got to lean into the digital world," she said.

In finance, for example, Ms. Mooney and her team have focused on integrating banking customers' experiences across physical branch locations and KeyCorp's digital platform. As for her work at Cleveland Clinic, Ms. Mooney said, "AI and digital technology are also going to transform healthcare, from how you're being treated or diagnosed to how you book an appointment and go to the doctor."

She continued, "It's also going to help us manage the pace of new knowledge. What was known about the cause and treatments of diseases used to change every 10 to 20 years. Now it's something like every seven months."
