The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston has launched a rebrand of the organization.

UTMB announced the brand refresh Dec. 2, unveiling a new logo and tagline.

The logo incorporates a shield inspired by Old Red, the university’s iconic Ashbel Smith Building, according to a news release. “The shield symbolizes strength, tradition and the enduring presence of UTMB in the community,” said the release.

UTMB also introduced a new tagline, “Where Purpose Meets Passion,” which it says “captures the energy, compassion, curiosity and commitment that define the workforce and mission of UTMB across its hospitals, clinics, classrooms and research laboratories.”

UTMB, part of The University of Texas System and a member of the Texas Medical Center, includes schools of medicine, nursing, health professions, public and population health, and graduate biomedical sciences. According to its website, it operates four institutes for advanced study, a major medical library, a network of hospitals and clinics, and various research facilities.

Leaders said the brand refresh aims to elevate the university’s identity as a global leader in academic health sciences and align UTMB more closely with the UT System. Read more about the changes here
