16 marketing chiefs at the top 20 US hospitals

The hospitals named to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals 2026-27 Honor Roll are guided on the branding and consumer side by a mix of long-tenured veterans and executives who stepped into the role within the last year.

Below are the chief marketing officers or equivalent leaders at each of the 20 hospitals on this year’s Honor Roll, which was released in early August:

Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston)

Mark Bohen is chief marketing and communications officer of Mass General Brigham, the parent system of both hospitals. He joined the system in 2020 and leads a unified marketing and communications organization built from more than 10 legacy departments across the 16-hospital system.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles)

Beth McDonnell is vice president of marketing and communications and chief marketing officer. She joined Cedars-Sinai in 2022 after more than 25 years in marketing and communications roles, including at U.S. Bank, Anthem and UnitedHealthcare.

Cleveland Clinic

Kelly Hancock, DNP, RN, executive vice president and chief caregiver and administrative officer, took on oversight of marketing and philanthropy April 1.

Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia)

Aaron Johnson is chief marketing officer of Penn Medicine. He was named interim CMO in July 2025 after Tanya Andreadis departed for the University of Miami Health System, and has been with Penn Medicine since 2008.

Houston Methodist Hospital

Laura Lopez is senior vice president of marketing and communications, a position she has held since 2023 after joining the organization in 2013.

Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore)

Amy Ranier is vice president and chief marketing and communications officer of Johns Hopkins Medicine. She joined in April 2025, bringing more than 20 years of marketing leadership experience, including as chief marketing and communications officer of Beth Israel Lahey Health and 13 years at UPMC.

Mayo Clinic-Arizona, Mayo Clinic-Florida and Mayo Clinic-Rochester (Minn.)

Sherri Gilligan is chief marketing officer of Mayo Clinic, overseeing marketing across all Mayo Clinic sites. She joined Mayo Clinic in 2019.

Mount Sinai Hospital (New York City)

David Feinberg is senior vice president and chief marketing and communications officer of Mount Sinai Health System, a role he has held since 2018.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell (New York City)

Devika Mathrani is chief marketing and communications officer, a role she has held since 2021.

Northwestern Medicine-Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago)

Mark Modesto is vice president and chief marketing executive, a role he has held since 2016, when he joined the system after more than three decades in marketing, advertising and brand management, including as an executive vice president at Epsilon.

NYU Langone Hospitals (New York City)

Elizabeth Golden is executive vice president for communications, marketing, and government and community affairs. She joined NYU Langone Health in 2023 after 17 years at Pfizer and was named to Adweek’s 2026 Adweek 50 list.

Rush University Medical Center (Chicago)

Ryan Nagdeman leads marketing for Rush University System for Health, where he has worked since 2013.

Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital (Palo Alto, Calif.)

Michiko Tanabe is senior vice president and chief marketing officer, a position she has held since 2018 after joining the organization in 2008.

UC San Diego Health-La Jolla, Hillcrest and East Campus Medical Centers (San Diego)

Jacqueline “Jackie” Carr is chief communications and marketing officer of UC San Diego Health. She joined the organization in 2002 and previously served as executive director of communications and media relations.

UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center (Los Angeles)

Michael Burke leads marketing and business development for UCLA Health and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, a role he assumed in July 2025 after joining the health system in 2012.

UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center (San Francisco)

UCSF Health’s marketing and communications leadership is in transition. Sarah Sanders, who had served as vice president and chief marketing and communications officer since 2021, left in September 2025 to become executive vice president and chief consumer officer at Baptist Health in Jacksonville, Fla.

University of Michigan Health-Ann Arbor

Christine Woolsey is chief communication and marketing officer, effective September 2025. She previously was senior vice president and chief marketing and communications officer at Hospital Sisters Health System and spent more than a decade at SCL Health (now Intermountain Health).
