UPMC Enterprises, the innovation, commercialization and venture capital arm of Pittsburgh-based UPMC, has kept up a steady drumbeat of news across its digital health portfolio.
Here’s what’s new with UPMC Enterprises’ portfolio companies:
1. Abridge unveiled an AI-native “clinician intelligence platform” and expanded its Nvidia collaboration. Announced June 11, the platform moves the ambient AI company beyond documentation to coordinate clinical, financial and evidence-based decisions across the care journey. Abridge is working with Nvidia to build a foundation model for clinical conversations and is rolling the platform out enterprisewide at Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine.
2. Koda Health raised series A funding backed by UPMC Enterprises. The April round supports Koda’s AI-enabled, values-based advance care planning platform, which now reaches more than 1 million patients through partners including UPMC, Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara and Houston-based Memorial Hermann Health System. A third-party study tied it to a 79% reduction in terminal hospitalizations and a 19% drop in total cost of care in the last year of life.
3. BrainCheck added UPMC Enterprises to a $13 million series A investment. The February round backs BrainCheck’s AI platform for screening and managing mild cognitive impairment and dementia, already in use across roughly 500 healthcare organizations, including UPMC.
4. Astrata earned a first-of-its-kind quality-measurement certification. The UPMC Enterprises spinoff said in April its software is the first to win National Committee for Quality Assurance approval to automatically calculate the full 2025 set of the quality measures health plans are graded on, working from digital health records rather than manual chart reviews.
5. Rialtic and Exponential AI announced a strategic merger. The May deal combines Rialtic’s claims-intelligence platform with Exponential AI’s agentic capabilities — one to watch on the payment-integrity side.
