Upset patients rally at Brooklyn hospital over EHR outages, prescription delays

Patients rallied in front of Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., over IT outages and delayed prescriptions there, News 12 in New Jersey reported Dec. 15.

The hospital's parent company, One Brooklyn Health, has been dealing with a cybersecurity incident in recent weeks that have forced EHRs offline. Patients told the news outlet they were fed up over the delays in prescriptions caused by electronic communication disruptions between the hospital and local pharmacies.

"Our hospitals and facilities are open," the health system said in a statement to News 12. "We are working toward reducing our reliance on downtime procedures by deploying additional technologies and reactivating aspects of our network."
