Ransomware groups becoming more sophisticated: 3 details

Hackers are becoming more sophisticated with their attacks to cause destruction in a shorter period of time, according to an online report in ZDNet.

Three details:

1. Cybercriminals have begun running full-scale network intrusions in highly targeted campaigns. They are identifying network vulnerabilities and may spend months undetected before encrypting the network.

2. As cybercriminal groups become more experienced with attacks they are able to conduct them in a shorter time frame. Tom Hall, principal incident response consultant at FireEye Mandiant, a security company, expects the time between initial compromise to encryption dropping from months to days.

3. Organizations can protect themselves by applying security patches quickly and having two-factor authentication.
