Patient data accessed in cybersecurity incident at California hospital

Banning, Calif.-based San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital said patient data was accessed during a recent cybersecurity incident at the facility.

The hospital identified unusual activity on its computer network Nov. 10, subsequently isolating and shutting down select IT systems, according to a notice on its website. Its investigation determined that an unauthorized party got into the network between Oct. 29 and Nov. 10, accessing documents that contained patient information such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, provider names and clinical information.

San Gorgonio Memorial began notifying affected individuals Dec. 7.

The hospital stated that it's "always a good idea to review the statements you receive from healthcare providers and health insurers. If patients see services that they did not receive, they should contact the provider or insurer immediately."
