Valley Medical Center's Board Weighs Compensation of CEO Rich Roodman

The board of trustees at Renton, Wash.-based Valley Medical Center will vote on extending the contract of CEO Rich Roodman, according to a Seattle Times report.

Mr. Roodman has served as CEO of Valley Medical Center for more than 30 years. The board will vote on whether Mr. Roodman will receive a new two-year contract worth about $1 million in annual salary and bonuses, according to the report.

The contract would not end contributions to Mr. Roodman's supplemental executive retirement plan, which is reportedly worth $7.5 million. Board President Lisa Jensen emailed the Seattle Times saying if the agreement is approved, it "strikes a balance that acknowledges Rich's service and performance at VMC and also recognized the changing times at VMC and in healthcare in general."

Mr. Roodman's compensation package has consistently been higher than other fellow CEOs within Seattle-based University of Washington Medicine. Stephen Zieniewicz, executive director of University of Washington Medical Center, earned more than $605,000 last year, while Eileen Whalen, executive director of Harborview Medical Center, earned about $568,000.
