Median sign-on bonuses in 2023 varied across physician specialties, according to Sullivan Cotter's 2022-23 Physician Compensation and Productivity Report.
The report examines data on more than 306,000 physicians and advanced practice providers from 920 hospitals, health systems and medical groups.
The following are median sign-on bonuses for nine specialties in 2023. Two-thirds of newly recruited physicians received a sign-on bonus.
Internal medicine: $25,000
Family medicine: $20,000
Gastroenterology: $20,000
Neurology: $20,000
Psychiatry - general: $20,000
Emergency medicine: $18,000
Pediatrics - general: $15,000
Hospitalist - internal medicine: $12,500
Obstetrics/gynecology - general: $12,500
