In 2021, there was a 28 percent gender pay gap between male and female physicians. In 2022, it fell to 26 percent — but the cost is still significant, according to Doximity's 2023 Physician Compensation Report. 

Two out of three physicians are considering leaving their roles as overworking continues to be a widespread challenge and physician compensation remained flat or was down for many specialties last year, according to Doximity's 2023 "Physician Compensation Report."

Surgical specialities tend to yield the highest pay, while pediatricians typically take home the least, according to a recent report from Doximity. 

Average physician pay in the U.S. decreased 2.4 percent between 2021 and 2022; however, it trended upward in some cities, according to a recent report from Doximity. 

In several cities across Texas and the Midwest, a $100,000 salary isn't eaten up by taxes and a high cost of living, Bloomberg reported. 

As inflation rises, workers are demanding higher wages — and securing them at hospitals and health systems nationwide. But in some cities, even six figures does not feel like much anymore, according to Bloomberg.
