Nurse practitioners in California earn the highest median pay in the country, while those in Alabama earn the least, according to data released May 15 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Nationally, nurse practitioners earned a median annual wage of $132,300, according to the BLS.
Cost of living can affect how far that pay goes. Becker’s previously reported that after adjusting for cost of living using mean wages, Oklahoma NPs rank among the highest earners while Hawaii NPs rank among the lowest despite the state’s above-average nominal wages.
