Nurse practitioners in Arkansas saw a 12% increase in average pay between 2024 and 2025, the highest jump across all states, according to data published May 15 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
While California continues to pay the highest average salary for NPs, Oklahoma and Hawaii stand out for highest and lowest wages, after cost-of-living adjustments. With a low cost of living, NPs in Oklahoma earned an average adjusted $75.02 per hour. Nurse practitioners in Hawaii earned an average adjusted $37.14 per hour.
Nationally, nurse practitioners earned an average salary of $137,300 in 2025.
Below are the mean hourly and annual wages for NPs in 50 states and the District of Columbia, according to May 2025 salary data from BLS. Becker’s also calculated mean hourly wages, adjusted for each state’s cost of living, using 2026 cost-of-living index data from the World Population Review.
