NP earnings rose 6 percent to average $112K in 2017

In 2017, nurse practitioners saw a 6 percent increase in gross annual income, according to a Medscape survey.

The clinicians’ medical information website surveyed more than 3,200 advanced practice registered nurses, including nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists and nurse midwives.

Three other survey findings:

1. NPs earned $112,000 on average in 2017 compared to $106,000 the previous year.

2. Certified registered nurse anesthetists had the highest average earnings compared to other advanced practice registered nurses. They earned $192,000 on average in 2017 — a 5 percent salary increase compared to the previous year.

3. Nurse midwives had the second-highest average gross income in 2017, earning an average of $107,000 (4 percent increase compared to the previous year).
