The job cuts will affect all employee groups and are in addition to the 1,300 job cuts already made by the health system. A number of HHC’s 500 full-time physicians will also be cut, but most nurses will remain employed. HHC’s current budget requires 2,400 job cuts in the next four years, according to the report.
HHC’s plan to reduce costs also includes the closing of a dental clinic and five children’s health clinics, but all 11 acute-care hospitals will remain open, according to the report.
