Healthcare CEOs earn highest median pay

An analysis from Equilar and The Associated Press found CEOs of healthcare companies led CEOs across all industries in median pay for the sixth time in seven years, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Healthcare CEOs earned a median of $13.6 million in 2014, up 4 percent from 2013. The basic materials industry was next best in terms of median executive pay at $12.6 million. Executives of utilities firms earned the least, at $8.9 million, according to the report. The median pay for healthcare executives tops overall median CEO pay by $3 million; the midpoint for all CEOs in 2014 was $10.6 million.

Information was based on data from executive compensation research firm Equilar, which gathered data from regulatory filings of 338 companies. The firm only used CEOs with two or more years at the helm to account for sign-on bonuses. Numbers include salary, bonuses, perks, stock awards, stock option awards and other components, according to U.S. News & World Report.
