As of May 2018, the average salary for registered nurses across the U.S. was $75,510, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Here are the five states where RNs make the most, and five where they make the least on average.

1. California: $106,950
2. Hawaii: $98,080
3. Massachusetts: $92,140
4. Oregon: $91,080
5. Alaska: $89,310

Worst
1. South Dakota: $58,340
2. Mississippi: $58,490
3. Iowa: $59,130
4. Alabama: $59,470
5. Arkansas: $60,780
