The survey shows the U.S. maternal mortality rate has worsened between 1990 and 2015, so much so that American women are now twice as likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth as Canadian women, according to Reuters.

The U.S. is well ahead of the U.N. target of 70 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births, according to the report. However, its rate has increased from 12 to 14 deaths per 100,000 live births between 1990 and 2015, according to the report.

Canada’s maternal mortality rate is 7 deaths per 100,000, and it has not moved in the past 25 years.

Only 13 countries, including the U.S., North Korea, Zimbabwe and Venezuela, have regressed in maternal mortality since 1990, according to the report.
