Merger Talks Ended, Michigan Hospital Plans Physicians’ Offices in Rival’s Backyard

After 57-bed Zeeland (Mich.) Community Hospital called off a proposed merger with 209-bed Holland (Mich.) Hospital, the larger rival is renewing plans to build physicians’ offices near Zeeland, according to a report in the Holland Sentinel.

The Zeeland Community Hospital board said it ended its summer-long negotiations for the proposed merger because it was not in the hospital’s best interest.

Zeeland has opposed Holland Hospital’s plans for the new physicians offices, first announced in March, calling them an unnecessary duplication of services.
