Renovation improvements include a pharmacy, special rooms for labs and EKGs, triage rooms and fast-track rooms. The 1.5-year project cost approximately $5 million, according to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
The Memphis VA Medical Center was recently the subject of an investigation, which uncovered that the hospital removed patients from waiting lists before receiving care, according to a separate WHBQ-TV report. Last year, the hospital received one out of five stars in the agency’s internal ratings for quality of care, according to The Tennessean.
The physical changes of the facility, combined with termination of some key staff members, are important steps to bringing respectability back to the facility, said Tennessee Congressman Steve Cohen, who was present for the renovation’s reveal.
