Published by North Carolina for Better Medicaid, the survey reported 62 percent of North Carolinians knew “little or nothing” about the change, and 43 percent of Medicaid recipients had the same answer.

A May state report highlighted that despite being provided a period to select new plans and providers, 85 percent of those affected were automatically enrolled in a plan over enrolling themselves.

WAVY reports that on July 1, enrollees are automatically assigned one of five managed care providers who then assign a physician to each patient.

Those whose physicians changed with the move have until the end of September to request a change provided their old physician is part of the managed care program.
