Georgia hospital to close extended care center

Lawrenceville, Ga.-based Northside Gwinnett Extended Care Center residents and staff were notified this week that its Atlanta-based parent company, Northside Health System, plans to close and repurpose the facility, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported Aug. 11.

The facility, which currently serves as an assisted living and rehabilitation center, will be repurposed into an additional site for inpatient beds.

"The center's beds will be reallocated to Northside Hospital Gwinnett to support increasing inpatient needs," Northside Health said in a statement shared with the publication. "This reallocation will provide much needed inpatient beds for the burgeoning Gwinnett area, while the new patient tower is being built on the Northside Gwinnett campus."

A date for the closure has not yet been announced. The health system assured the community it will provide a smooth transition for residents currently staying in the care center.

The 70 staff members who worked at the care center will be offered positions in other areas of the health system.
