Duke University Health System Plans New Patient Tower, Cancer Center

Duke University Health System, based in Durham, N.C., recently received state approval to begin construction on a $700 million patient tower and a $250 million cancer center, according to a report by The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area.

Duke University Hospital in Durham will be home to the new eight-story patient tower. The tower will feature 16 operating suites and 160 beds.

The seven-story cancer center will house all of the health system’s outpatient cancer services under one roof. The center will feature 140 examination rooms, 75 infusion stations and a pharmacy.

The cancer center is expected to be completed in 2012, and the new patient tower is expected to be completed in 2013.
