Beginning March 1, the hospital will merge obstetrics services with Carolinas Hospital System-Florence (S.C.) and will no longer provide scheduled, inpatient delivery services.

Hospital officials attributed their decision to a decline in demand for inpatient labor and delivery services at CHS-Marion.

The hospital will still offer gynecology services and diagnostic imaging. In addition, Marion Medical Center OB/GYN in Mullins will continue to offer prenatal care and women’s services.

“This new model has been developed because continuing to operate the same way is not sustainable for the future,” the hospital said in a statement obtained by WPDE.
