Pittsburgh-based UPMC has opened the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Bračak, Croatia, marking a significant step in expanding access to advanced oncology care in the region.

Located on the campus of Zabok General Hospital and Croatian Veterans Hospital, the new center offers comprehensive cancer services, including radiation oncology, medical oncology, and PET-CT diagnostics, serving patients in Croatia and surrounding countries.

This is UPMC’s first facility in Croatia, developed in collaboration with Croatian health leaders. It becomes the sixth UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Europe, joining nearly 80 centers worldwide, including locations in the northeastern U.S., Italy, and Ireland.

With nearly 20 years of experience in international oncology care, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center partners closely with local governments to ensure both public and private patients have access to high-quality treatment.

“We are honored to bring the life-changing medicine of UPMC to Croatia,” Joel Nelson, MD, executive vice president of UPMC and president of UPMC International, said in a March 26 news release. “UPMC has collaborated with the Croatian Health Ministry and key leaders to understand and address the region’s unique healthcare needs. This new center will provide local access to world-class cancer care, supporting efforts to advance cancer prevention, detection, and treatment.”
