Trinity Health is set to open a $226 million replacement hospital in Brighton, Mich., on April 19, relocating Trinity Health Livingston Hospital from its longtime home in Howell, Mich., eight miles away.
The Livonia, Mich.-based health system will transfer patients and redirect ambulances to the new location starting at 4 a.m. on April 19. The Howell facility will permanently close at 1 p.m.
The new four-story, 174,000-square-foot hospital sits next to Trinity Health Medical Center-Brighton, an existing outpatient campus offering primary and specialty care, diagnostics, surgery and cancer care.
The new hospital includes 56 acuity-adaptable beds — up from 52 in Howell — with plans to add 24 more next year, according to MLive. The campus also includes 18 short-stay unit beds and eight operating rooms, with capacity for two more.
The new facility will offer cardiac CT for the first time and expand women’s imaging services. The hospital will include three mammography rooms, up from two at Howell, with space for a fourth. It also will staff two on-site radiologists specializing in breast imaging, versus one at the old facility.
Labor and delivery services will not be reinstated at the new hospital because of declining birth rates and low patient volumes. Pregnant patients will continue delivering at Trinity Health Ann Arbor, which delivers more than 4,000 births annually.
Trinity is selling the existing hospital building in Howell to Wildwood, Mo.-based Catholic Healthcare International.
