Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare plans to invest nearly $600 million to build a relocation hospital for Piedmont Newton Hospital in Covington, Ga.
The health system filed a letter of determination with the Georgia Department of Community Health for the project, according to a Sept. 22 health system news release. Piedmont will bear the full cost of the project.
The relocation hospital will be the second-largest capital project in Piedmont’s history. The system has invested nearly $2 billion in expansion projects over the past five years.
Piedmont partnered with Newton Medical Center to form Piedmont Newton in 2015 and has since invested $70 million in the hospital and expanded services. The existing hospital, built in 1954, is licensed for 128 beds. The relocation facility will allow for modernization efforts, the release said.
