Plans for Jackson Memorial, also in Miami, include a new patient tower and emergency department expansion, remodeling of patient rooms and floors and building a new rehabilitation hospital. The rebuilding and renovations are expected to take place through 2020, according to the report.
Outside of Jackson Memorial, the health system’s building plan includes interior renovations and additional operating rooms, an emergency room expansion and new patient rooms at Jackson North Medical Center in North Miami Beach, Fla., the report states. The plan also includes adding 20 new patient beds, remodeling of labor and delivery areas and expansion of the behavioral health unit at Jackson South Community Hospital in Miami.
In explaining the building plan, Carlos Migoya, CEO of Jackson Health System, told board members, “The healthcare system we have today is simply not large enough, not broad enough and not deep enough to meet the demands of a growing community or a changing industry,” according to the report.
