The 12-story, 1.3 million-square-foot hospital, which will replace the existing LBJ hospital, and level 1 trauma center will comprise 390 private rooms with the capacity to add 60 more. It will also feature 15 operating rooms, a helipad and a hybrid operating room, according to a May 9 news release from Harris Health.
The project is part of the health system’s $2.9 billion investment in a multiyear, multiphase plan to build the hospital, renovate the LBJ hospital, expand capacity at Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital in Houston and develop three health centers in the area.
Harris County, Texas, officials in November approved a $2.5 billion bond to support Harris Health’s development plans.
The hospital is expected to open in late 2028.
