Atlanta-based Grady Health System has received a certificate of need approval from the Georgia Department of Community Health for a 200-bed acute care hospital in Union City, Ga., a spokesperson for the system said in an Aug. 16 statement shared with Becker’s.
The certificate of need was for $924 million, the spokesperson said.
In March, the Fulton County (Ga.) Commissioners voted unanimously to advance plans for the hospital that would operate under Grady Health. The total campus investment will be more than $1 billion. It also includes a freestanding emergency department that opened in early June and a medical office building.
“This is an important milestone for the project, and we are continuing to advance plans for the Grady South campus as we work to expand access to high-quality healthcare in South Fulton,” the statement said.
Grady Health System comprises its main hospital campus, Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, along with multiple outpatient centers, specialty centers and long-term care services, according to its website.
