Brigham and Women's Hospital gets $100M gift

Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital has received a $100 million gift from Gene Lay, founder and CEO of BioLegend, which develops antibodies and reagents used in biomedical research.

Brigham and Women's will use the money to create the Gene Lay Institute of Immunology and Inflammation of Brigham and Women's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital — also a founding member of Mass General Brigham — and Harvard Medical School.

Vijay Kuchroo, PhD, Brigham immunologist and principal investigator, will lead the institute, which will study immune-mediated diseases, aging and cancer and develop drugs associated with these conditions and diseases, according to a May 10 news release.

The $100 million gift is the largest in the hospital's history.
