Wausau, Wis.-based Aspirus Health has opened its 19th hospital, expanding access to inpatient and outpatient services in a region affected by two hospital closures in 2024.
Aspirus Chippewa Falls Hospital and Clinic held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community open house Sept. 17, according to a news release shared with Becker’s. The facility will begin treating patients Sept. 22.
The 35,000-square-foot facility in Chippewa Falls, Wis., combines hospital and clinic services and offers emergency care, inpatient care, primary care, imaging, laboratory services and an on-site inpatient pharmacy.
Aspirus announced plans for the hospital in November 2024, months after Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System closed HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls and Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis., in March 2024.
“We heard clearly from the community that they wanted more local healthcare options,” Jason Troxell, president of Aspirus Health’s Wisconsin Northwest Division, said in the release. “This hospital and clinic are a direct response to those needs and represent our long-term commitment to supporting healthy, thriving communities throughout the Chippewa Valley.”
The hospital sits on a 22-acre campus and is Aspirus Health’s 19th hospital. The health system includes 14 hospitals in Wisconsin, four in Michigan and one in Minnesota, as well as more than 130 outpatient locations, according to its website.
