Here are the five largest donations to hospitals that Becker's covered in 2023:
- In December, New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering received a $400 million donation from Citadel CEO Kenneth Griffin and David Geffen, an entrepreneur and record executive. The donation was the largest MSK ever received.
- In September, Detroit-based Henry Ford Health announced that it was building new rehab and research centers through a $375 million donation from the Gilbert Family Foundation.
- In July, Mineola, N.Y.-based NYU Long Island School of Medicine received a $200 million donation from Kenneth and Elaine Langone. The donation will fund scholarship programs at the medical school.
- In March, Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai received a $140 million donation from the estate of Susanne and Ervin Bard. The donation, which was the largest in the health system's history, will fund clinical research and innovation in the health system.
- In March, New York City-based Montefiore Health System received an anonymous $100 million donation to support the health system's biomedical research.
