The old hospital facility, which was built in 1954, had grown to be outdated and too small for the hospital’s patient volume. Parkland’s emergency department alone handled 266,000 visits in 2014.
Although excited to move on to bigger and better things, the move has conjured up feelings of nostalgia among the hospital workers and patients alike, according to the report.
“It’s emotional,” Alexander Eastman, MD, chief of Parkland’s Rees-Jones Trauma Center told The Dallas Morning News. “It’s like moving out of your old family home. It’s got some blemishes, but it was home.”
