DMC officials say the pediatrics tower will place the medical center among the country’s leading institutions for treating children with serious conditions. Plans for the tower include:
- Expanded pediatric and neonatal intensive care units,
- A pediatric emergency department with 48 exam rooms and four trauma bays; and
- Expanded surgical facilities for transplants, neurosurgery and other complex procedures.
“[The new tower] really will give us capabilities comparable to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Boston Children’s Hospital” and other world-class pediatric hospitals, DMC CEO Joseph Mullany told The Detroit News.
Construction on the 248,800 square-foot tower is slated for completion in early 2017.
