Mr. Acton helped found WhatsApp in 2009 before Facebook bought the app in 2014; he continued to work at the company until November 2017. Facebook has been under fire this last week after revelations that political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica misused the personal data of over 50 million Facebook users.
