Walmart to expand grocery delivery business: 4 things to know

Walmart announced plans March 14 to significantly expand its online grocery delivery option by the end of 2018.

Here are four things to know.

1. Walmart's grocery delivery service is currently available in six markets, and the company plans to expand to more than 100 metro areas across the U.S. by the end of the year.

2. Walmart's expanded grocery delivery business will be supported by Uber and other partners, according to CNBC.

3. Shoppers who order groceries online from Walmart will pay a flat delivery fee of $9.95 to have the items delivered to their home. A shopper must order at least $30 worth of groceries to qualify for the home delivery option.

4. "Ninety percent of Americans live within 10 miles of a Walmart store, and we serve more than 150 million customers a week, which gives us a unique opportunity to make every day a little easier for busy families," said Tom Ward, vice president of digital operations at Walmart U.S. "Today, we're expanding this promise by helping even more customers save time and money without leaving their homes."
