Here are four key statistics from the report, released April 16.
1. Compared to March 2017, retail and food services sales were up 4.5 percent in March 2018.
2. Total sales were up 4.1 percent since the beginning of this year through March, when compared to the same period a year ago.
3. Retail trade sales grew 0.6 percent from February 2018, and were up 4.7 percent compared to March 2017.
4. Gasoline stations saw sales climb 9.7 percent from March 2017 compared to this March. Nonstore retailer sales also were up 9.7 percent compared to last year.
