Zocdoc trained an artificial intelligence model to provide patients with relevant plan information based on photos of medical insurance cards. To use Zocdoc Insurance Checker, a patient uploads a photo of their insurance card, rather than manually selecting from a list of plans.

The Zocdoc Insurance Checker extracts information from the card to validate coverage prior to a patient booking an appointment on the Zocdoc scheduling platform. Once a patient selects an appointment, Zocdoc will attempt to confirm whether the physician is in-network and the expected copay.

The company also shares insurance information with the selected physician’s office to reduce the need to validate the patient’s coverage with manual confirmation calls.
