Dr. Howell most recently served as the chief quality officer of University of Chicago Medicine and director of the UChicago Medicine Center for Healthcare Delivery Science and Innovation. As director of the center, he helped lead UChicago Medicine’s collaboration with Google, investigating how well historical data housed in EHRs can predict future medical events.
As chief clinical strategist at Google Research, Dr. Howell will join the Google Brain team focused on applying machine learning techniques to problems in healthcare, according to a LinkedIn blog post he published Oct. 6.
“My career has been about improving the quality, safety and experience of healthcare,” he wrote. “I’m excited to get to help think about how machine learning contributes to that in a meaningful way.”
