Here are four things to know:
1. Dr. Li plans to work at the intersection of AI and healthcare, including teaching at Stanford University’s Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine & Imaging in California, according to Synced, which first reported her departure from Google Cloud. Dr. Li already teaches a course on AI-assisted healthcare in the Stanford University School of Medicine as an adjunct professor.
2. Google Cloud tapped Dr. Li as one of the first leads for its AI group in 2016. Dr. Li also headed an AI center based in Beijing, which Google launched in December 2017.
3. During Dr. Li’s time at Google, the company’s cloud division rolled out a number of AI services. AutoML, for example, enables developers to create automated and customized AI models.
4. Prior to joining Google in 2016, Dr. Li served as the head of research at Snap, the parent company of photo-sharing app Snapchat.
